Cream Puff Fairy
(Like I said, AT&T gave me a phone and a month of free service but I have received no additional compensation or instructions about what to post and when and how and why. We just want to spread the love and give away some phones!)
Last year at BlogHer I was complaining aloud about how crappy it was to not be connected (I had an ancient (2007?) iPod Touch, but the convention center's wifi was always jammed), and when the ever lovely Jenny Lauck overheard me whinging, she said I should tweet with the hashtag #ATTPhoneFairy and the fairy herself would give me a new phone, poof, just like that. Rumor had it the Phone Fairy (whose real name is Liz) was there to help people with broken, lost, and pathetic phones, so I tweeted at her which brand of misérable I was, met up with her over a S'mores making station (as one does), and poof, I had a new phone, just like that.
I got the HP Veer in white, which, in addition to performing scores of impressive maneuvers, like CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET, it's also tiny and adorable. Look:

(Wallpaper is my feet in the BlogHer hotel bed.)
I've used it since August to surf and tweet and photograph and text, and oh, I love it so much I was honestly a little reluctant to trade up when the AT&T Phone Fairy contacted me last week and asked if I'd like to take the Impulse 4G (Android) for a spin and then give one away to a reader(!).

(Wallpaper is cream puffs, of course.)
Do you want one of those? Do you need one of those? If you're not sure, let me tell you a little bit about it:
--It runs the Android 2.2 platform (is it called a platform?), so it has tons and tons of apps. Words with Friends, GPS nav, built-in widgets for Twitter and YouTube, etc., etc., and even Instagram is coming soon.
--It has a nifty touch screen, which I didn't think was such a big deal until I actually used one on a regular basis.
--The camera shoots at 5.0 megapixels (that's nearly as good as the $1,800 digital SLR I shot with for six years), it has a flash (I didn't know any cell phones had camera flashes), and it records video on HD. Killer.
It does a million other cool tricks too, but I hardly know what's a super-amazing feature and what's just standard these days among smartphones becaus I'm kind of a cavewoman when it comes to this stuff. When I told the phone what my Gmail address was (this cavewoman only started using Gmail this year), for instance, it automatically imported all my contacts into the phone address book, and I...is that...normal? I thought it was a miracle of science and/or wizardry and almost worried that perhaps I was holding a demon in my hand.
Okay, so I'm easily impressed and don't have a lot of high-falutin' needs and standards when it comes to personal technology, but that doesn't mean this phone isn't teh awesome from a more sophisticated point of view. Either way, I love it and want to give you one. Of your own. Not mine. I'm sleeping with mine clutched to my chest like a beloved toy. Which it is. Miiiiiiine.
Let's not fuss around and draw this out any longer. If you'd like to win an Impulse 4G from me, your official Honorary AT&T Phone Fairy, leave a comment telling me why you'd like it (or why you need it), and next Monday, December 19, at midnight PST, Random.org will help me pick a winner.
I'm so excited I get to do this. Thanks, AT&T and Phone Fairy Liz! Good luck, friends!

I would love to win!! I neeeeeed it. I do. I have a flip phone circa 2008. WOE IS ME! So yeah. Gimme Gimme Gimme. :)
I'm a complete cavewoman, too, with my free Nokia (NOKIA!) phone. I could use a little more connectivity, just like you. PLUS? Monday is my birthday. Come on Leah, make 31 a good year for me! ;)
I have an iPhone, so I don't NEED this, but I know a few deserving people that can't afford a smartphone, adn i'd love to be able to gift this to them.
I could use a new phone because I can't play Angry Birds on my ancient one. Those breaks at work with people you would rather not talk to can get long and drawn out. Not in a good way.
I have an ancient (in cell phone years) non-smartphone that I love, but is slowly but surely fading on me. I could definitely use a new one!
I'm with Dawn K. I don't need this phone either, but I don't need this phone either, but I know a few people who would love to get it for Christmas!
I think my comment got eaten, so I'm going to try again. I have an ancient, free Nokia phone and am in desperate need to move out of the dark ages.
Plus, Monday is my birthday! :)
Well, I don't need it, but my husband sure would appreciate an upgrade!
Oh, you pretty little Android thing. Come to me. Please.
(I would like it because I love Android, I don't get an update for LIKE TEN YEARS and I NEED a camera flash. All the reasons.)
I could definitely use a new phone! My current flip-type cell phone does not have internet and is definitely not touch screen. I had a nightmare the other night that I was trying to get to my address book to call someone and my phone wouldn't let me. Stupid phone.
I would like it because my phone was made some time around when the Grand Canyon was first scooped out and my husband is now (I mean, right now this second) playing Words With Friends on his iPod Touch, but I never get to do that.
I would like it because my husband has an iPhone and I am insanely jealous of his phone's ability to be a gps and web-searching amazing thing. My phone has a slide out keyboard and a camera. Several times a week I say, "If I had a smartphone, I would...." and it would be fabulous to win one!
I have an iPhone, so don't need this, but my dad sure does. He looooooves taking photos and emailing them to family, but has an ancient point and shoot. His phone is also really old too. He's on disability and can't buy anything newer or better. He would go nuts for this!
I would love an Android phone! Thanks for the opportunity!
I'd love it, because I just started grad school which means I can't afford anything remotely like a fancy phone right now..
I would looove that phone. I have an older blackberry through work that while great for typing work emails is somewhat useless online and (most importantly of course) will not let me play words with friends with all the cool kids. The fact that it's free makes it impossible to justify buying something else, so a shiny new free phone would be awesome!
I would love to have that phone. I would actually give it to my mom because she really needs a new phone.
I need one because my ancient Blackberry barely makes or receives calls, much less actually functionally runs the internet/receives emails.
So can any of you tell me more about the effects of offshore oil drilling in the US? I'm from Australia so this is not a local subject material to me. I keep hearing in regards to the oil spills in the news and I needed to know just how bad things are in the Gulf and how things are coming. Thanks and hello from down under.
ooh, i have a constantly crashing blackberry and would love an updated phone!
would love an upgraded phone to read all these fabulous blogs on!
Oh, man, I would sooooooo love to have that! I'm still dealing with a free-with-a-plan basic crap phone that has no frills. My hubby and I are always joking to each other about "Look it up on your phone," and then smirking because, of course, we can't look up anything on our phones.
I have a great friend who currently owns a phone that routinely decides to turn itself off/drop calls/be generally curmudgeony. And I would very much love to gift said friend a new phone for Christmas. (So pick me, Random.org. Pick me!)
Oh man, I just realized that my phone is from when I was a Sophomore in undergrad. That is 7 years ago now... but it still works! I could use a new phone though, for the whole internet thingy... plus I'm pretty sure the new phone won't have lines going randomly across the screen?
I would LOVE to win this but I would give it to my best friend, who is still using a no-frills, no-data, no-camera bar phone from the dawn of time. She wants a smart phone but is planning an April wedding and can't justify the cost right now. So pick me...er, her!
