Windy-City Writers
Hey! You! Tell me who blogs in Chicago, especially about kids and schools and neighborhoods. I have a friend moving there this summer and she wants the inside scoop on the scene.

You mean aside from mimi smartypants (http://smartypants.diaryland.com/)?
Only Dawn M of Chicago Uncommon (http://chicagouncommon.com/) comes to mind, and she’s a photographer rather than a writer.

I moved to Cali from Chicago, but at that time I was childless and living downtown. Probably not much help…
I too hail from Chicago, but when I was a move I was both childless and.. a child. But I can tell you some GREAT walls to walk on, penny candy stores in slightly shady areas of town, and the best smelling library in the city.
foodmomiac.typepad.com She just moved and she has kids…
My pretty friend Jessamyn! http://jessamyn.typepad.com/
Whoorl said Cali. Aren’t you going to reprimand her the same you did me when I spoke the word?
Whoorl knows what she did. And how she shall suffer for it. Bwahahahaha.
(People who live in Orange County are actually allowed to say “Cali.” It’s one of their regional privileges.)
Is she moving to the city proper or to the ‘burbs?
That makes a big difference, ya know.
I just moved from the Chicago area. Lived there for three years. I only have two scoops and I’d be happy to share. I have several friends there, too… so, email me if’n you want a scoop.
Cone or cup?
I’m orginally from the Chicago ‘burbs but most of the Chicago bloggers I used to read are on Flickr exclusively now a la DawnM and InjustSpring or have moved away.
I’m so glad two of you mentioned Dawn M. I used to look at her stuff years and years ago when she had a regular blog; it’s nice to see she’s still doing her amazing thing.
Here’s a good Chicago based family http://www.hollyrhea.com/
Agreed that Mimi Smartypants is the best. Another high profile Chicago blogger is Jen Lancaster, author of Bitter is the New Black. Not exactly the family type, but entertaining.

Also, this is a good central location to research Chicago blogs that are virtually organized by geographical neighborhood.
