EcoMetro, Part 2 (Rain)
On Sunday we planned to make another push to use up our coupons, but it looked too wet and miserable outside, so we stayed in all morning until it was time to go to another kids' concert at Ashkenaz--we saw Andrea there (thirty-nine and a half weeks pregnant and moving like a dancer; is it possible she really is a superhero?), and Wombat and Ben grooved together a little to some downhome kid-style bluegrass music--and we did it all for six dollars off thanks to the EcoMetro Guide.
It was certainly wet out, but it actually wasn't miserable at all. The air was warm and the breeze soft (mostly), and the best part of rain in Berkeley is the way it makes the bark of the giant oaks turn black against the electric green of the leaves. (The worst part of rain in Berkeley is the way the gutters back up and form rivers so wide and deep it's not unusal to find onesself stranded. When I lived in Berkeley I used to get stuck on my block about once a week during the winter.)
Wombat was a little unsure of the whole thing, but he had his wellies and his mini-umbrella and his homemade (but not by me) rain-sprite sweater, and he braved the elements with a measured confidence perfectly illustrated by a small boy leaning into the wind while holding his father's hand.
I took some little clips and made a little mood piece. It almost makes me excited for the rainy season to begin.

Aww, this just made my day. I also felt for Wombat when his umbrella popped out. Is that not the worst thing ever?
The combination of the google-eyed wellies, argyle socks, tiny umbrella and firm grip on his dad's hand made me sigh Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
{Happy sigh.}
He is so sweet. Love the colors.
Ahhhh the cute! It's killing me!
what a great video. wombat just gets cuter and the music was so calming.
Cute video - makes me want to pull out my own camera again. Where did you get the background music?
The song is "Buckets of Rain" by Will Brady. Don't know what album it's from or if it's available anymore. (Simon used to perform with him about a decade ago, so they're old pals.)
It's from the album "Boxwork" which is acoustic solo songs. Great album. You can get it at:
http://www.ccnow.com/cgi-local/cart.cgi?willbrady_100_http://www.willbrady.com/cds.htm
You should buy it. Will is one of the best guitar players I've ever played with, and he is the definition of the Struggling Genius Musician. You don't know anyone as talented or hardworking as he is, and a few CD sales would help him make his rent.
So cute. My daughter would never agree to go out in the rain like that and second she would be screaming at me to carry her the entire time.
Your little guy is so cute. How do you find the time to do a video like this?
ok. I had to comment again...I saw simon's link for the song. Small small world....I used to work for the company that owns CCNOW. Strange to visit a blog and see it come up. Anyway....
Love the video! So sweet!
