EcoMetro, Part 1

We realized last week that the coupons in our EcoMetro Guide (now the Chinook Book) were about to expire.* Being that we're constitutionally unable to pass up a good deal, we spent the weekend trying to use up as many as we could.

After a wild Friday night spent listing, mapping, and tearing tiny perforations, we started Saturday morning at the Alameda Farmers Market, where we got a basket of strawberries, six ears of corn, a pound and a half of green beans, a bunch of baby bok choi, a fistful of cilantro, and a bouquet of chili peppers for twenty-five cents total. I think that means we win the farmers market.

Then we headed to Julie's Coffee and Tea Garden for our buy-one-get-one beverages. It was lunchtime, so we splurged on an order of baked eggs with spinach, cheese, and garlic (OMG), which we shared in the patio garden, which seemed designed especially to accommodate Wombats who like to wiggle.

Then we went to the Alameda Marketplace, where we masqueraded as well-to-dos, or at least until we pulled out our quiver of coupons to offset the cost of the wine and cheese and sausages and bread and breakfast pastries and kitchen supplies and organic grocery items (savings: $40).

Masquerading is hard work, though, so after that we came home, reveled in our coupon mastery, and had some corn, which we gnawed cob-style like the savages we are.

*If you live in the Bay Area, Denver/Boulder, Portland, Seattle, or the Twin Cities, you should check out your region's Chinnook Book. It usually only takes a couple of coupons to make up in savings what you spent on the book, and it might lead you to some new favorite places, like our book led us to Julie's.

And look at you with the fancy red nails.

That's not me, it's my double. Some people have evil twins, I have a fancy one. ;)

and the eyes! Your eyes look so beauty in that pic.

Gorgeous, gorgeous photos! I'm envious of your lovely Saturday and access to such marketplaces.

Awesome deals! Love how you completely whooped the farmer's market. Score big time! And I especially adore the last picture. Nothing beats gnawing on corn like savages.

Thanks, guys!

Is it just me or did your photography skillzzz just jump up a level? Gorgeous photos - are you doing anything different?

Ha. Thanks. I was out with my cheapo 50mm lens (seriously; $75!), and then I processed everything a little "cooler" than usual. (Normally I have a UV filter that tends to warm things up.)

Love the Eco Metro Guide. The Ace Hardware coupon was awesome and also the one for the Food Mill!
