Hot, Happy Mess
It was a warm weekend here in the Bay Area. It was a flip-flopping, hat-and-sunscreen-wearing, one-sheet-sleeping, swim-twice-in-one-daying, hair-buzzing, slip-sliding, homemade-popsicle-dripping-down-your-elbow-into-a-fuschia-puddle bunch of hours, and the fact that we were able to get things checked off our to-do list was just icing on the ice cream cake.
We swam at a friend's condo pool and then at home in the un-hot hot tub.

We trucked home three bags of free books.

We admired the city.

(And the Golden Gate.)
We worked on (and goofed around in) the garden.

(More photos of its current state here.)
Wombat slept in both days and it was just as ticker-tape-paradeworthy as it sounds.
In thanks for this grand behavior (and because we're good parents), we finally got some backyard toddler equipment off of Craigslist, in hopes of diminishing the number of times we have to say to Wombat "Don't touch that!" when he's just trying to explore his own yard, poor thing. (He stomps the vegetable plants, climbs the stairs, puts gravel down his pants, eats bird poo, and sticks his hands in the flower pot that filled with water during a storm a few weeks back and then became the watery grave of a lizard that was still floating there as of yesterday afternoon, at which point I ordered Simon to please get rid of it because I couldn't walk by without rubbernecking it's rubbery little corpse even though it was sad and gross and I didn't want to look but I couldn't help myself.) Anyway, we got Wombat one of these, which Simon calls The Monstrosity. I call it a small price to pay for a smile, especially now that the boy is terrible-twosing like a pro.
Eighteen months, you say? Well, then this must mean he's advanced.

We had a stellar weekend too. *Happy sigh*
I'm really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one today..
