Hitched, Without One
One fun thing about having friends who are writers is that I don't feel responsible for recording or interpreting our shared experiences the way I do with my non-writer friends. Because being a writer (or even just a "person who writes") usually means being a Noticer of Things, I'm always more at ease in a group of Noticers because it means the (entirely self-imposed) pressure is off me to be the Grand High Poobah Collector of Significant Details and Moments lest they waft away into the ether forever like the perfume of a passing bouquet.
I photograph for the same reason I write--because time is fleeting and memory imperfect--and even when I'm among other writer/photographer-types, you can count on me to have a camera slung over my shoulder (and another one in my purse) just as surely as I'll be taking mental notes about background music, overheard conversations, and the singular energy of the moment.
Two Saturdays ago, two writer/photographer/Noticer of Things types, Kristin and Scott, got married, and I of course sacrificed everything to capture each special moment (and some not-so-specials) in whatever ways I could, because that's the kind of friend I am. (Don't you want to invite me to your wedding now? I'll make sure you don't have any leftover cake!) Okay, so I actually didn't sacrifice much more than my silhouette and the illusion of being stylishly unencumbered and carefree--this due to the fact that my coat pockets (a coat in May!) and both purses (two!) were stuffed with extra lenses and filters and I was looking like a veritable pack mule (although in an incredible $25 dress!)--and all right, fine, it could hardly be called a "sacrifice" when I was having such a grand time of it all, witnessing the marriage of two delightful friends, not to mention sampling champagne cocktails on the lawn.
Does this look like the face of a martyr to you?
But this is not about me. This is about the radiant bride and dapper groom. So let's get on with it already, shall we? (For obvious reasons, I'm anxious to get these photos up before the official photographer uploads hers, and besides, why not follow up a wedding-related $100 contest with another wedding post? 'Tis the season.)

Instead of escort cards, they wrote guests' names on these salvaged windowpanes, each assigned the name of a country Kristin and Scott have visited.

The dress was a lovely champagne rose color. Gawgeous.

Love the sash and buttons down the back. And Kristin's hair. And Scott's chocolate brown striped suit.

Instead of a cake. (They were heavenly.) Here's the whole spread.

The first dance and the d.j. set-up.
And my favorite photo, because a happy couple = a good wedding, and this was a really good wedding. (Thanks for letting us share the day with you, K and S!)
(If you can't get enough of weddings, or of this wedding in particular, there are more photos here, and then I'm sure Kristin will be writing about it in more detail on her award-winning bloggity blog here.)

So so gorgeous. Thank you for being a Noticer of Things, and for sharing all of this loveliness with all of us.
Oh, yay! I've been dying to see photos of Kristin's day. She is just lovely.
I am another one shouting, "YAY!" I've been dying to see photos from their wedding. Well done, friend (and roomie).
What a beautiful wedding! They look so happy and they are going to love every single one of those pictures, I just know it.
You are AMAZING! Here Scott and I are in a jungle on the other side of the world blatantly breaking our no-Internet ban so we can see the first snippets of our wedding from one of our favorite people. Thanks for doing this and for taking such great shots--you (and Simon) rock! Can't wait to share Your Big Day with both of you!
Awesome shots. I adore this. Totally adore it!
The Pelican Inn is one of the best places on earth! They are geniuses for marrying there! Beautiful photos, great post!
Gorgeous wedding, beautiful couple, lovely photos. Congratulations all around.
I LOVE THIS.
That last shot of them both is perfect.
I love weddings.
Pictures came out beautiful!
Awww, loved it, especially the cupcakes instead of cake. That last shot is killer!!!
Hello Miss Leah!!
Well, I had taken a break from the blogosphere for quite awhile (life got all kinds of crazy and busy and riddled with changes!!), and now I'm back and visiting your happy and fabulous blog, and I had practically forgotten how completely adorable the Leah/Simon/Wombat clan truly is!! I love the pictures, ESPECIALLY the one with the cupcakes instead of cake. When I tell people that I want cupcakes instead of a cake at my wedding, they get a little squeamish (folks don't take too kindly to radical departures from well-loved traditions....but cupcakes are my favorite things ever....), so I am so glad to see that this gorgeous couple also thought outside the box! Woo hoo!
....and since I've been gone for awhile, I am going to allow myself the liberty of doing two things: 1. bogarting tons of comment space (done and done), 2. asking whether or not you and Simon have gotten hitched yourselves!!
Just lovely my dear, you've put our photographer on notice!
Test
Thanks for you post
