Apples to Apples

When I was pregnant with Wombat, I ate a lot of apples. I had one every day for my snack at work (well, for one of my snacks), and sometimes I'd have another in the evening.

I wouldn't call it a craving--I mostly just ate them because they were there and easy--but I would say that they never tasted better to me than they did then.

Wombat loves apples too, and oranges and grapefruit and bananas and pepper-lime chicken. But, if given the choice, he prefers something a little more...exciting.

This was him today.

When you give the kid lemons, he doesn't even bother to make lemonade; he just bites in, peel and all, and comes out laughing.

Okay so that is just darling. I LOVE his hair.

I love how he winces every time he takes a bite, just slightly! That is too darn adorable!

Awwwww. Such a cutie pie.

Sam loves lemons, too, and my parents said that I did as a baby as well. This could be bullshit, but I hear that little kids don't taste sour the way adults do, so it's easier for them to eat them? I guess?

I hate to be the voice of doom (dooom! doooom!), but I've been told that if you let little kids suck on lemons, as they often like to do, it's really bad for the enamel on their teeth. Just sayin'.

Yeah, I think his days of eating entire lemons are over. That's an awful lot of acid for a little body. It was good while it lasted (two days).

My face curled in on itself just watching that!

Apples are undoubtedly the most perfect pregnancy food. I must have eaten my body weight in Honeycrisps and Granny Smiths over the last nine months. And now? They're fine, but my apple enthusiasm has waned.

oh my, kids and lemons. never gets old :)

This has got to be the cutest thing I've seen all month.

I covet his bangs. My youngest (2) eats salsa by the fistful. I find it wildly endearing. More so when her eyes water, she squeaks, "A'drink now?" and then dives back in.
