Feet Week

During my pregnancy, I whiled away many an hour imagining what my son might look like. I couldn't wait to see his eyes, his nose, his hair, but also his belly and fingernails and the folds and dimples in places we're never able to appreciate them on our own adult bodies. I would memorize every inch of him, tip to toes, and be able to pick him out of a lineup of earlobes or pinkies or neck rolls.

What I didn't take into account, however, was that it would be December and hence nut-shrinking cold when we brought him home from the hospital. For the first several months I only saw what little babyflesh we dared expose to the elements raging through the leaks in our hundred-year-old house. I would have no trouble recognizing Wombat's face (or his cry) from among millions, but I couldn't have told you his butt from your Aunt Mary's (although I hope, for everyone's sake, I could have at least made a good guess).

Now that it's spring inside the house as well as outside, I'm finally able to see--and study, and memorize--the elbows and knees and wrists and ankles that had heretofore been bundled up and packed away for the winter. And, my! Mother Nature! What impeccable timing you have! You give us long, warm, sunny days just as Wombat figures out how to pull his socks off, the better to suck his toes (jam be damned!). We can now cross "frostbite" off our babyproofing list.

A better parent might worry about their baby ingesting all that toe lint, but then I realize that if a little lint isn't stopping me from eating his feet, why worry?

So hello, feet! It's nice to finally make your acquaintance.

You know, I THOUGHT those photos looked familiar! What sweet little feet. I hope you're going to post the naked-on-a-bearskin-rug pictures of him next.

(And uh, by HIM, I mean Wombat. If you've got any of those of Simon, I don't want to know.)

Hooray for toes!

If I were there, I would nom them myself.

You're sure making me excited about four months! He's like a real little person with the ability to Do! Things! Right now Kyle can do things and by things I mean scream and sometimes grin. And ... that's it. (Still love him but HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH? I just could never have imagined I'd be so thrilled at the prospect.)

awww, he found his toes!
(baby feet make my ovaries ache...)

Love these.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Totally sweet feet. Sigh, I just love baby feet. Give them a nibble for me ;)

This is my favorite baby stage right here. I know, I know, it's all a miraculous journey la la la la la etc, but there is just something Exactly Right about that particular age.

OMG, that last one of him sucking on his toes?? PRECIOUS. And fantabulous for teenage blackmail.

Mine, too! And what makes it even more fun is that he really thinks it's thrilling to have his socks off, so I can calm him down, amuse him, and admire his feet in one fell swoop!

So so cute! Baby toes are the best!! Although in pic 4, it does look like he's hanging from the ceiling fan. lol

confession - i have a baby foot fetish.

whenever i see a baby anywhere i immediately look for bare feet. i just love those tiny toes & puffy feet that have never been walked on.

Holy goodness those are cute toesies!!

Oh! I'm pretty sure there's nothing better than baby feet and toes. How CUTE! I'd get busy nibbling too =)

I would read your blog JUST for the photos, nevermind the insanely hilarious, interesting, and engaging (I couldn't find another "i" word, Ok? I'm 16 weeks pregnant, get off my CASE! and give me cottage cheese, please?).

And as for the extra 5 pounds; they won't go away until you're done breast feeding. Don't worry :) As soon as you're done, they'll melt off.
