Life on Linden Street

A few weeks ago I was asked if I'd review some products from JCPenney's new home collection called Linden Street, which, hi, yeah, of course I will accept an offer to bring more pretty things into my living space (especially if JCP and BlogHer give me a $500 gift card with which to do it!), for I am nesting like a whole host of sparrows here as I slide into the end of pregnancy week twenty (halfway there! halfway there!).

When I returned to my office after a few days off work for what is known to my coworkers as my "*mumble mumble* writing conference," I found my desk a fortress of large cardboard boxes containing some of the stuff I'd ordered online for review just a week prior. Now, before I actually talk about the products, let me say up front that if you're having a housewares emergency and need a decorative mirror or a retro clock or a set of lamby-soft towels in a variety of neutral colors NOW NOW NOW, JCPenney online is a good way to go because they ship FAST. (I ordered on a Sunday and had my merch by Thursday!) I should also say that what follows is a compensated but honest review, which includes the part about no animals having been permanently damaged in the researching of this article. (They liked it, I swear!)

And now, follow the link for my first official product review--with pictures! pictures of cats! pictures of cats in no actual physical danger!

(There was some drama involved in getting an ad-free page to work with my five-year-old MT template (I KNOW), so if you want to comment, you have to do so from the link below as there is no comments link on the page you are about to click to.) Okay, scratch that. The brilliant Liz Henry has solved my template issues (yet again), so you can comment here or on the linked page, if you are so inclined.)

Wow! How cool that they give you money to shop, even better that you were so honest.
I figured you would be mostly nice since it was free stuff. I think it's fantastic that you put it all out there, with the mirror and then the trunks, they are overpriced, crappy and they smell. HA!
Love the pictures of the cats, of course.

Cool, I was just telling Jay the other day that I"d love a vintage-looking alarm clock, instead of the beige digital monstrosity I've had since I was a teenager. Now I have someplace to look!

WHAT?! My lamps were back-ordered too but I just figured I had to suck it up and forgo them! Now I find out I could have ordered them anyway and just been patient and waited til August to review them?! ARGH. Do I have to spend my OWN MONEY on them now? Horrors!

(PS: When I was in the JC Penney store the other day, I saw the Small Trunks live! and in person! and I thought of you. And the joke Simon made about small swimming trunks. I'm excited we have the same clock though. Should we bring them with us as accessories the next time we get together? Tied on a string around our necks, Flava Flav style?)

I'm still waiting to be asked if I want free stuff in exchange for my opinions. JC Penny - It's Not Just For Cats.

1. i can't tell, which is the manly clock?. . .

2. maybe instead of a bunch of mirrors you should just set a hugegantic flatscreen hdtv against the wall, hook up an hd camcorder pointed your way, and leave 'em both on 24/7. . .

3. one quick thing that might help with the outgassing trunks is to just leave 'em outside in the direct sunlight for a couple of days. . .

Great review! In the back of my mind, when I envision my place as not crowded, cluttered and totally unaesthetic, this decor is kind of what I picture, so it's good to know there's somewhere I can look for our cheap starter set someday!
