Flow

I didn't pee! Well, I didn't pee until I was told to pee, and then I think I broke the all-time record. I only drank 32 of the mandated 48 ounces, and I only held it for 45 minutes before my appointment instead of the full hour, but by the time I made it to the waiting room, I was dancing! Fortunately, the technician called me back three minutes later, she had the same name as my awesome boss and my best creative writing teacher, and she assured me that if she couldn't see anything with an external scan that she'd let me relieve myself before she commenced with the internal probing. You mean I finally get to take my pants off!

But no. Pants stayed on. And yet I'm not complaining because, folks, WE HAVE A BABY (well, an embryo), and s/he is alone in there (I guess I am just fattening up ahead of schedule), and s/he has a little thumpy heartbeat and is measuring at 7 weeks and 2-4 days (by my count, a few days larger than expected), and I am so relieved and excited and ready to wriggle into a Bella Band and breathe and purchase some small token of our impending babyfulness and oh, also pee again because it's been, what?, twenty minutes since I last went?

The ultrasound tech didn't really give us much information beyond "There it is" and "Yes, there's only one" and "7 weeks, 2-4 days" and "Yeah, it's the thing that looks like the Upper Peninsula of Michigan" and "You may pee now" but hopefully I'll hear from my doc soon and get a full report (although I'm not sure what more I need besides a heartrate count and a thumbs-up on the general state of my uterine contents and hey, maybe a photo of my child?).

But for now, I'm good. We're good. Wee wombat is alive and well and moving and shaking and growing, and trying with that wee wombat brain to figure out where to put all that love that's coming his/her way when s/he doesn't have any pockets. It's a lot of love, though; too much for pockets or a backpack or a steamer trunk or a 15' U-Haul. Just let it flow through you, baby. Just let it flow.

Sweet baby wombat! I can see it now: small, blonde, and likes to wear a kilt.

That is great! It must be a wonderful relief to see that grainy image and have someone say everything is as it should be! GO BABY GO!

Congrats on seeing that beating heart, nothing sweeter. As for the copious amounts of water, they have stopped requesting that I do it before my u/s. So weird because last time around I dreaded those appointments for the fear of peeing on a stranger and this time I can actually look forward to them!

These entries with all the water-drinking and the being forced to hold it when you reeeeally have to go? Make me have to pee every time. It's some kind of sympathetic response, I guess.

Hooray for heartbeats and wombats and loveyness. Happy.
