Tiny Moments
When I met friends in the audience at Simon's gig on Saturday, they asked me what I'd done so far that weekend, and the only way I could answer honestly was with "nothing." And maybe also with "took a shower," which, honestly, for a Saturday is sometimes the grand accomplishment of the day. (Am gross. Yes.) I'd stayed home from the office on Friday to finish a work project sans human distraction (traded in for feline distraction), and so Saturday felt like a free day--a gift--and so I took full advantage of it and just layed around in my robe from sun up to sun down. It was lovely. By the time Sunday morning rolled around, though, I was feeling a little bit disgusted with myself, even after a shower, and so I put on my Accomplishing Hat and got to accomplishing. I finished knitting Simon's Christmas beanie, sewed up the end of the draft stopper, almost killed myself and Simon completing the Frankenstein pincushion (a pair of rusty pliers were involved), started and finished the other two skylight shades, and, after a trip to IKEA, built a table, a lamp, a coat rack, and filled all of our new canisters with all of our old rice. Yesterday we got out into the garden a bit and pulled some weeds and discovered that our lime tree has finally produced fruit with copious amounts of juice (yummy in pepper-lime chicken) rather than the dry fruit-like pods we tried squeezing into mojitos back in the fall with no success. Between the two of us, we also purchased a new car battery, buffed existing fingernails, shaved head, bought a baby gift for a girly girl due on Leap Day, refilled the hot tub, hung disco ball, incessantly refreshed Linda's site (although I already knew Baby's name!), won deeply discounted beauty products on eBay, watched way too many movies (of course), and voted. (You know you're paranoid when you feel guilty voting for a candidate because you're positive that whoever gets the Democratic nomination will be assassinated by some right-wing crazy for being black/female.)
It has been a few days of Tiny Moments. Nothing more, nothing less.
What did you guys do this weekend?
Posted by Leah at February 5, 2008 05:19 PMWe house hunted all weekend long. And I officially hate house hunting. We also went to a birthday party for a baby boy who turned ONE and I think there was a Law & Order: SVU episode watched in there somewhere.
We stopped cleaning the house, though. I think we're both hoping living in filth will motivate us even more to find a suitable (and better!) place to live.
Posted by: She Likes Purple at February 5, 2008 05:43 PMThank you for letting me know that I'm not the only one who started to worry about the assassination factor?
This weekend I rehearsed, sat in on someone else's rehearsal, saw someone play a music gig, watched all of 3 minutes of the Superbowl, sent out the Press Release for my show as far and wide as possible, took some photos, saw someone else play a music gig, went out to breakfast and I had to shower every single day. I hate when that happens.
Posted by: Kizz at February 5, 2008 06:49 PMI tried spinning and watched the superbowl. I must be paranoid too because I also worry about assasination potential
Posted by: Sarah at February 5, 2008 06:58 PMI don't remember.
I also don't remember what I did today.
Who am I and how did I get here?
Posted by: Angella at February 5, 2008 07:15 PMi so want to vote... le sigh. kentucky!
Posted by: jeorg at February 5, 2008 07:18 PMTiny moments are the best. And I totally know what you mean: I've been working from home for just a week now, and I'd say I showered on less than half of those days.
Posted by: Camels & Chocolate at February 5, 2008 07:41 PMI uploaded pictures onto my computer, blogged, finished buying the necessary supplies for my new condo, waged war against several cockroaches (the ones here in Asia take especially long to kill...roach killer was definitely one of the necessary supplies for the new condo), tried a new restaurant, drank lots of green tea, bought some very inexpensive jade jewelry and pashminas, successfully assembled a fan (even though the directions were in Thai), planned a trip to Cambodia, missed my boyfriend, and WISHED I could have voted.
I guess you know you're naive when it doesn't occur to you to be paranoid about the assassination possibility.....yikes!!
Posted by: Brooke at February 5, 2008 07:47 PMMy weekend was not quite as productive as yours (I tip my hat to you!) but it was notable in that we got lots done but didn't feel all stressed and rushed like we usually do. And today was a pretty cool day.
Awesome that you now have nubile limes (can fruit be nubile?) because nothing is sadder than a mojito with no lime.
Posted by: awatersign at February 5, 2008 09:03 PMi went to a very fun birthday party that had a keg of shiner and catered tex-mex food; i got my hair cut and feel human again; i spent time with my hubby's family
Posted by: zay at February 6, 2008 08:07 AMThose tiny moments are wonderful when you stack them all up like that.
Posted by: Elizabeth at February 6, 2008 09:22 AMWe ran way too many errands with a very patient almost-one-year-old. I miss laying about. Your weekend sounds lovely.
Posted by: lainey at February 6, 2008 09:31 AMI wish I had one of those days of "nothing" this weekend - those are my favorite! Instead I went to a funeral, a family birthday party, and then drank way too much both during and after the Superbowl. It was way too busy for my liking.
Posted by: Carrie at February 6, 2008 10:07 AMOh Leah, it's obviously been far too long since I read your blog. I'm so sorry to hear about the miscarriage and I wish you the best.
Posted by: Kiraa at February 6, 2008 02:48 PMPretended to clean the house.
Took tons of photos.
Took care of sick, feverish family members.
Yearned for the beach.
