Tidbits

Apparently I'm hiating this week, and I didn't even know it until just now. Kooky! And honestly, work isn't really that crazy after all (not today, anyway), but instead of blogging I've been taking advantage of the rare lull to clean up my desk--a desk that is littered with junk (literally: we're talking empty soda cans and used tissues) that is three years old despite my only having been at this desk for two years. Also, my officemate is out today, and you know what that means. I am the grossest person on the planet.

My mind's been either blank or preoccupied lately, so I'd like to take this time to thank all the NaBloPoMo posters out there who are making up for my lack: Thank you for writing about your wedding plans and your international travels and your broken vaginas and thank you for taking pictures of your shoes. I have been thinking of these. In five days I will have them in my mouth. Or, you know, near my mouth. Even with a professional bath tutorial you never can be too sure...

I have tried to write, half-heartedly, torturedly, this week, but all I can come up with are tidbits you'd expect to come with full-length stories crackling with interest but, alas, don't. To wit:

1. While we were visiting Salt Lake, my parents and bro were a Nielsen Family. A Neilsen Family! It has been a dream of mine for many years (up there with being a book reviewer on Reading Rainbow) but it turned out to be not such a big deal after all. Harumph.

2. Simon exchanged a pint of beer for a stage 2 nicotine patch and wore it for five hours before the crazy got to him. Never again.

3. I just watched eight adults pile into a mid-sized sedan.

4. While we're away our cats will be babysat by four different people: one Japanese and three Chinese. It just worked out that way. The Japanese girl will actually be having three Japanese family members over to eat Thanksgiving dinner at our house, which I find kind of awesome considering we haven't even had Thanksgiving dinner at our house yet. (The Stovetop I bought Wednesday night and then consumed one hour later doesn't count because we ate it in front of the TV straight from the pot.) The best part of this is that one of the Japanese family members is a bona fide gourmet cook, and I have instructed him to leave crusty dregs of his concoctions dried up in our grout so we can enjoy it when we get home from our looooong overseas flight. Yum.

Happy weekend, everybody. There's coconut cookies (from the gourmet chef!) and birthday cake (from a first birthday!) in my near future and I really couldn't be happier.

Happy travels! Safe trip, and enjoy the baby toes and birthday cake and whatnot. Also, tell Simon that using a nicotine patch when he's not an addict is kind of whack, and I wonder whether it made him have weird dreams? (I can explain the science behind it if you like (ooh brain chemistry!), but one thing many patch users report is vivid and strange dreams)

As you know, I was a Nielsen family a few months ago and then -- OH THEN -- I was offered to be a full time Nielsen family. But alas, my job as a journalist nixed the whole thing, because my parent company, in addition to owning a shit ton of newspapers, owns a few TV networks. Bah.

My roommate and I were a Nielsen Family in college. It was a let down. It also brought to our attention how much we were watching the Lifetime Movie Network.

Neilsen does not apply to Canadians. Boo!

Gotta love Stovetop straight from the pot!

I like Stovetop right out of the box. I'm a freak!

So I guess working in an office alone is real "exhausting" for you. Ewwwww.

A broken vagina?! Really? You can do that?
