Press Play

Speaking of cats (weren't we?), I worried a fair amount about leaving the felines on their own while we were away (they had someone stop in to feed them, but I doubt he hung out and played with and snuggled on them in the eighteen-hour stretches they're accustomed to). Despite my stern warning to both Eve and Linus that if I came home to find either of them dead, they'd both be in a heap of trouble, I was plenty nervous that on the off chance they didn't purposefully kill or maim each other, they might do so accidentally. When we got home late Sunday night, we found them both alive and well and doing exactly what they were doing when we left:

Have any of you had a feline duo who did this wrestle-rassle thing ALL THE TIME? If so, should I be worried that death is imminent? I'm clinging to the hope that this WWF lifestyle is part of the cat/kitten dynamic and that once Linus grows out of his youthful berserkitude calm will once again reign supreme. Any words of wisdom or sympathetic pats on the back?

Lest you think that Eve is the aggressor and poor baby Linus is in danger, let me assure you that the clip above doesn't include all the times Linus has leapt from a height onto her head while she was quietly spitbathing her armpits or otherwise minding her own business. Here's a quickie. Place your bets and then press Play.

Oh, that's adorable. I think Stan needs a Cat Tree like you guys have. So much fun.

Oh my goodness, my cats wrassle ALL the DAMN time. They are somewhat elderly too - 8 years old and 13 years old. Of course, the smackdowns come between LOOOONG periods of napping.

aww Linus is so tiny! And I had 3 cats at once and they indeed acted like that all the time. And I had one adult, one "teen", and one baby.

yup, kitties love the wrasslin'

We travel to my mom's with our cat, and two years ago she got a kitten and they play fought like that the entire two weeks we were there. It was pretty funny because my cat is 20 pounds and the kitten wasn't even 20 ounces.

Then when I went home last summer my mom was babysitting my sister's kitten, and those two cats also play fought for about a week straight.

I doubt they will kill each other, but they may provoke some homicidal feelings in you around 3am one night.

Or every night!

I am laughing so hard! 3 sets of HAHAHA are not enough!

Aww...I think that's SO cute! I think they're playing, for sure. My cats don't have extended periods of wrestling like that, but shorter, angrier bouts of contact accompanied by some serious growling and hissing on our older cat's part. Eve and Linus' wrestling looks more like fun. I didn't hear any mean noises...

We have two dogs and they are both over three years old and fight A LOT. I think they sleep while we are at work, so they can show off by wrestling when we come home. Maybe your cats do the same?

all i can focus on is my INTENSE and desperate jealous of that kitty playground.

Posted by: amanda at November 6, 2007 05:04 PM

Our two cats (9yrs and 12 yrs) do that ALLL the time. It is so very entertaining. My husband and I have been known to place bets on the really intense sessions. We love it!!

Posted by: Frobeast at November 6, 2007 05:08 PM

Wow, Eve doesn't leave any question as to who is the dominant cat!

Posted by: beck at November 6, 2007 06:32 PM

Fantastic! It really looks like Linus has settled in. Our two cats (2yrs) have less frequent bouts, but Monkey in particular likes to play so much that she expects us to wrestle with her too. Here's hoping that the little squirt calms a bit as he ages. (For your sleep/sanity's sake only, because these clips are hilarious!)

Gabby and Punk wrassled all the time. Punk would be grooming Gabby and then the next thing I'd know, Gabby would be squealing and they'd be rolling on the floor. They were both instigators too but I think Punk did most of it as she needed to keep Gabby in her place. Ah good times. I do miss that squeal.
Now, with the new boy Alex, it's a bit slower going but they just started chasing each other around so I think wrassling is imminent.
But it's so very common in kitties. You sort of learn to tune most of it out. We only intervened when we heard an emergency squeal.

First off..I read your blog via Trim and Fashionable. Hope that's all right!
My cats act the exact same way so no worries! They just love each other a lot and show it by being members of the WWE. So cute!

My cats are all about the wrestling. If one if them wants to wrestle and can't find the other one, he will make the saddest meowing cry ever to be heard until the other one finds him. It is so cute.

I kept adjusting my speakers. I can honestly say I've rarely seen cats wrassle like that without making a lot of noise - hissing and growling mostly.

They definitely look like they're having fun. When we brought home Buster Kitten (ahem Keaton) he terrorized/teased/cajoled Bella into wrassling, too. They also snuggle and groom one another.

It's love.

it's normal! my cats do it all. the. time. and they've never once in 8 years killed each other.

linus is astoundingly adorable, by the way.

I love that Eve just saunters away while Linus is still going MENTAL on the cat tree. HA! He will grow of his youthful insanity, and you will miss it. If Eve really wanted to do some damage she would, I believe they are just playing. Very funny, and cute. I demand a video everyday.
