All Smiles

If you read Will's blog B.N. (Before Nina), you might have noticed that he never ever smiled in the pictures he'd post of himself. Many years ago, when I asked him to email me a photo that proved he was indeed physically capable of smiling, he sent me back a jpg featuring a closed-mouth, tight-lipped sorry excuse for a grin, at which point I was convinced there was something very very wrong with his teeth. Being that Will and I don't concern ourselves with things like tact, I shared my suspicion ("Are your teeth totally messed up or what?"), and in reponse I received a photo of him baring his perfectly fine pearly whites in a manner that, were we canine, I could only assume was a grimace of pure Alpha aggression. He wasn't being mean, though, just proving a point to a pesky girl.

This is all a long way of saying I'm pretty sure that era has ended for him, as he was all smiles during last weekend's wedding extravaganza.

That photo was taken at the conclusion of a toast during which Older Slackbrother J said that his sister was like Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper": a perfect piece of work that could not conceivably be improved upon. Then, as came Will Farrell and Christopher Walken, who took the Reaper to a higher level and made it what it is today, along came betheboy for theslackmistress, making her an even better version of the great girl she's always been. "As for the future," concluded Older Slackbrother J, "all I have to say is..." and then everyone yelled out "More cowbell!" and clapped and cheered, although some of the older folks must have been shaking their heads wondering what in the world we were talking about.

That's the kind of wedding it was--full of obscure pop culture references, jokes about "Jessie's Girl" as the vows were being read, and, of course, robots.

Pictures will be on Flickr as soon as I can get to them. In the meanwhile, bask in the glow of Internet love.

Looks as though you captured some amazing moments on camera. They are such a pair, and I am happy to see Will's neverending smiles too.

Whoops...sorry about the double post...

That balck and white photo is totally fab and I think that your decision to reformat the camera was a good one. Yay, Slackmistress! Yay, Be The Boy! (have I ever mentioned just how much I adore their dog? Not that I've ever met her, really, just that she looks so sweet in the pictures.)

Re: the dog. Apparently she's pretty fab. At least according to Will and Nina. They kept saying, "Oh, I wish Daisy were here!" It was like The Old Man and the Sea all over again.

I knew that your photos were going to be fab (isn't that a pain? You do something so uberswell and people take it for granted?) but thank you for capturing the placecards. I wanted to make sure I did so and then handed off my camera and then totally forgot about it.

I cannot WAIT for the rest of the photos. And thank you so so so so so much for coming once again!

If I ever get married, want to be my photographer?

That's a big, giant, full on caps and in bold 'IF'.

it's been a while since i've read "the old man and the sea" - where does daisy the dog appear in the story?. . .

Aww. Great pictures, they capture all that sweet, stylish love.

Most of what I remember from The Old Man and the Sea is the old man saying "I wish the boy were here" over and over and over and over and over again.

Dudes! Where did you guys stay? I am all about all things Vegas. And congratulations to Will and Nina, you guys look fabulously happy.

We stayed at Mandalay Bay--tres swank.

Yeah, I'd totally hire you. Or give you a plane ticket to wherever you like in the world and fly you out to Boston and put you up in a nice hotel.

I would have loved to have photographed my sister's wedding (or DJ-ed it). But they felt really bad about making me work since I was the sister...I still point out that for the amount of money they spent on a (really really shitty photographer who lost their photos for 6 months) photographer we could have purchased a super high-end digital camera, I could have figured it out prior to the wedding and they could have KEPT it after the wedding. Instead, they got the "posed style" photos...and my sister had to go through and photoshop a lot of shit out of them anyway.

There was an interesting article in NYT about how digital cameras are changing the world of professional photography. Specifically it was about how stay-at-home moms are wrangling away contracts from professional baby/family portrait photographers.

Seems like you had a nice time in Vegas...awesome!

Also, the bride's dress is just fabulous.

There are days that I think Will married me for my dog. But I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same. (And thank you everyone!)

Monkey--The dress was VELVET. I swooned when I touched it.

(And thanks everyone for the compliments on the photos! It really does help to have good subjects, though...)
