Hop, Skip, and a Jump

A few things before I go:

1. How come we can call Las Vegas "Vegas" but not Los Angeles "Angeles"? And why "L.A." but not "L.V."?

1a. Nevada or Nevahdah? (Hint: It's Nevada. And also Oregun (not Oregawn), Florida (not Flahrida), and, I hear, Muhssooruh.)

2. This morning I gave birth to my first child: a 6 lb. 5 oz. squirming ball of lung mung. Do people suffocate on their own mucus? How about drown in it?

2a. My mother, the nurse, who is unfazed by any physical ailment that does not involve actively burning flesh or blue extremities, told me yesterday that three (now four) days of sore throat means I should get to an urgent-care clinic ASAP so I don't come down with rheumatic fever. WTF?

3. Our hotel has internet access (paid), but there's still a possibility I won't post the rest of this week. If not, hope it's because I'm exhausted from partying and not dead of rheumatic fever or mauling by white tiger.

3a. Or heat stroke. Cross your fingers that my beverage of choice is this rather than this, especially considering my history of accidental substance abuse.

I recently went to urgent care after having a sore throat for 5 days and was berated by the doctor. He said, "I told you last time it takes 7 to 10 days." (since I no longer had a fever).

Have fun! How jealous am I? (Of the Vegas. Not really of the possible rheumatic fever.)

Huh. MY mother the nurse (who says, "You're in pain? Good. It's a sign you're alive.") tells me to drink gallons of water and take way above the daily recommended allowance of vitamin C. But I've only had a sore throat for two days. Let us know how that rheumatic fever goes.

Save all your posts for the after-trip recovery. I'd be tempted not to take my laptop to Vegas because I'd prolly lose it, with my shirt, on one of the tables.

Congrats on the snotfant. What did you name it?

We are able to tell who were native Texans by how they pronounced the name of the state. It's apparently "Takes-us" to some. Who knew?

Did you name it Lung Butter? Because I would have.

Have a great trip!

Ooooh, have fun in The Vegas!

No? Does that not work either? :)

Leah- Have you tried gargling with warm salt water? Sounds disgusting, I know, but it is a sure fix for a sore throat. My 96 year old grandfather swears by it. Also try Ricola tea. Feel better and have a great time in Vegas!

My mom had rheumatic fever that developed from untreated strep throat when I was a kid. Baaaad stuff. Strep throat doesn't usually have congestion with it, though. Does it?

My Mom is also a nurse and acts the exact same way.

i always argue that if you are from there you get to decide how it is pronounced.

i agree with t-bone that you should save them all up for afterwards.

I know a girl who developed Scarlet Fever from a case of Strep and went deaf at 19. Watch out and get some medicine if you need to.

Hope it's a fun-filled weekend!

I was in Vegas two summers ago. In July. It was 117 degrees. I survived. Have Fun!
