Caught on Tape
It's going to be a busy week for me, what with a manuscript deadline and a melted commute (holy shit) and only three more nights alone before Simon comes home and completely disrupts my peaceful routine. (I can't wait! Come home! Disrupt!) Since I don't want to spend my last evening as a twenty-seven-year-old (wah!) catching up on proofreading because I spent my workday blogging, I'm going to have to keep it short and sweet today, even though Simon has been begging me to update because this blog is apprently his "lifeline," even though we've been emailing and IMing pretty regularly for the last week. Now who's the needy one, hmmm?
My weekend highlight was hosting a movie night with the ever wonderful Kat and Ann, Internet friends turned real-life friends. On Saturday they came over bearing snacks and ingredients for simple vegetarian chili, and we spent the next nine(!) hours watching fine examples of classic cinema (Labyrinth, The Neverending Story, and What About Bob) while having our lusty way with chips and salsa and guac and popcorn and gabbing as girls do. We did not strip down and hit each other with pillows, in case you were wondering.
Speaking of movies, a chunk of my free time over the last few days has been devoted to creating a little music video for Simon. For the last few months I've been wanting to honor last year's heroic triathlon efforts (and maybe inspire him to do some more?), not to mention this would be the perfect excuse to sit in front of the computer and look at pictures of him for hours on end. So here's my little film. It doesn't have David Bowie or a Luck Dragon, but it does include a clip of Simon with his shirt off (and as much as I love Atreyu, I'll be too old for him by tomorrow), so on those grounds alone I give it five stars. Five stars of sport-induced hotness. Five stars of miss-him-like-crazy hotness.
(The video quality is, of course, pretty crappy and dark compared to the full-size version. It also seems to have been stretched horizontally, making Simon look a little like a Before picture rather than his usual svelte self.)
(The music is "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues" by the Eels.)
Posted by Leah at April 30, 2007 01:26 PMsweet! thanks, babe!
Posted by: simon at April 30, 2007 03:35 PMThat's really good! Aren't photo so much more fun to look at in a slideshow set to music? That is how I would prefer to look at my pictures then on patterned paper surrounded by borders cut out with scalloped scissors.
Posted by: Monica at April 30, 2007 03:51 PMExcellent movie! I managed to watch it with Emily on my lap banging a plastic bowl on the table.
You guys are too cute, as always :)
Is it your birthday tomorrow???
Posted by: Angella at April 30, 2007 03:55 PMlove it!

you two are way too cute in your net relationship...
Posted by: jeorg at April 30, 2007 05:51 PMSweet video. But seeing all the swimming and biking and running made me tired. I don't think I'll ever muster the strength to be a triathlete. Go, Simon, though! You are He-Man.
Posted by: Amanda at April 30, 2007 05:52 PMLove it, inspiring stuff!
Posted by: The Real Mrs White at April 30, 2007 08:20 PMnice job! Looks great - love the music too. :)
Posted by: Carrster at April 30, 2007 08:40 PMThat is very impressive! First, I immediately bought the song off of itunes. Second, I wonder what magical technology you used to make the little movie! so cool!
Thirdly, Simon is soooo hottttt.
Posted by: jenB at April 30, 2007 11:43 PMWow, that movie is impressive. Also happy pre-birthday. Also, What About Bob is one of the greatest movies of all time.
Posted by: Tricia at May 1, 2007 12:10 AMamanda - the sprint distance triathlons (like the tri-for-fun in the video) are actually really fun and not all crazy gnarly like you might think from watching the escape from alcatraz or hawaiian ironman ones on wide world of sports. . . in fact, i remember in the tri-for-funs i did there were people of all fitness levels and ages. . . i think the youngest one i saw was about 9 and the oldest looked to be in his 70s or 80s. . .
Posted by: bloopy at May 1, 2007 04:52 AMHappy birthday!
Posted by: Jennie at May 1, 2007 06:36 AMGreat video. I am inspired! :)
Posted by: Tripping Daisy at May 1, 2007 09:42 AMBloopy's right. The sprint-distance triathlons are pretty quick and they always include some tiny little kids and some really old or really out-of-shape contestants. Simon did the whole thing in just over and hour.
Thanks everyone else for saying nice things about my little movie! It took quite a while to figure out how everything works (iMovie and iPhoto), so it was nice to get some exposure and feedback from more than just a handful of people.
And thanks for the birthday wishes too!
Posted by: Leah at May 1, 2007 10:25 AMSo lovely, it almost inspired me to participate in a triathalon. Almost.
