Happier Things
Simon's business partner is married to a man who has been in and out of the hospital for years and is currently staying at some sort of assisted living facility several miles from home. (I promise this is not a wholly depressing story; stay with me.) This guy is a vegetarian, but although the facility provides vegetarian meals, it's the exact same thing every day, and probably lasagne, since the vegetarian option at non-vegetarian establishments is always lasagne. Seeing as how even I couldn't eat the same thing every day, even if it were french fries, I can't imagine that whatever they're offering up--even if it's a nice salad and not some limp-noodled slop involving eggplant--is worth looking forward to with wet Pavlovian rapture, which, really, shouldn't be too much to ask considering that it could be the only bright spot for someone stuck in bed, away from home, and probably subject to the whims of a nurse who decides that everyone is going to watch Wheel of Fortune whether they like it or not. (We're getting to the not-depressing part soon!)
When Simon heard about the situation, he offered to take dinner to the facility last night, and when I talked to him yesterday afternoon, he was busy at home concocting his own special recipe of faux risotto (jasmine rice instead of arborio) cooked in a creamy squash base and mixed with mushrooms and red and yellow and orange peppers, with a side of steamed broccoli and sourdough bread and truffles for dessert. I should never fail to remember that he is more than capable of caring for me if I'll just shut up and let him. See! Not depressing!

If we ever get delusional enough to set up an agirlandaboy.com Cafe Press shop to sell official "merch" to our "peeps," we've agreed that our first product will be a shirt with the word "Business" on the front and "Party" on the back. I've hesitated Googling for evidence that such a thing already exists because I'm almost sure that it does, and in the event that we ever decide to actually design the shirts, I don't want my prior knowledge to make me liable for intentional copyright infringement. Ignorance can get you intro trouble, but it can also get you out.

Someone found this site today by searching for "cutest thing a boy could do for a girl." I say it probably involves holding a kitten like a baby and singing it a song something along the lines of "You're a cat and you like to dance / You're a cat and you wear fur pants." What do you think is the cutest thing a boy could do for a girl?
Happy Groundhog Day, suckas.

Nothing beats a party in the back.
I thought you were calling me (collective: us) a "suckass" in your sign-off, but then I re-read. I thought that was a little harsh.
The cutest thing a boy could do for a girl is buy her a shirt that says Business on the front and Party on the back.
happy groundhogs day, indeed. what a totally nice thing to do.
I would say "love her" or something like that but really? Diamonds. Diamonds are very cute.
You'd also need a girls' shirt that says "Liquor" on front and "Poker" on the back. Yeah, it's a dirtier joke. I need to open a Cafe Press account myself!
I love Wheel of Fortune, except I usually eat piles of meat while I'm watching it. C
Hope the veggie dinner goes well.
Well, for me, this very moment, the cutest thing a boy could do for me was what my boyfriend did for me last night. No, not that.
I woke up at 3:30 in the morning so hot I thought I was going to catch on fire; I've been sick for ages. My boyfriend got out of bed and brought me cold water and ibuprofen so my fever would go away-- all on his own, mind you. All I did was moan, "I'm so hot" and he was out of bed, rummaging around the medicine cabinet. I love him.
i would def. buy one of your "business/party" shirts for my b/f, because on occasion he loves to reference "sweet mullets." not the cutest thing he's ever done, but, you know, eyes fogged with lurve think so many little things are cute.
you have the sweetest husband! wow.
hey, I'm stuck in bed - does he want to bring me dinner? that sounds awesome.
I gotta say, someone making me a meal is on my short list of sweetest things.
The sweetest thing my bod did, was take pictures of my elderly parents (76 and 87) with his manual college days camera, develop and print them in our bathroom and then mat and frame the pictures. It's the most thoughtful gift I've ever gotten.
After travelling all day, I returned home to find that he had cleaned my house and had dinner waiting. He also always refills the ice trays. I don't know why, but that gets me every time.
Heya,
I'm bloghopping today and came over from The Little Owls. Fun series of unrelated items here. I have a friend at work who just went vegetarian and it's been interesting watching him try and still eat a variety of foods.
I think the cutest thing a boy could do for a girl is to treat her like a chivalrous knight would: be charming, gallant, romantic, and when all is said and done make sure she gets her happy ending.
