Here are some pictures. The first and last sets were taken at the hotel, and the middle one is shots from out and about the streets of Puerto Vallarta.

I hate to say it, but neither of us was too interested in going out and exploring the town in the face of all the poolside lounging and 20% off beverages the hotel had to offer. As someone who grew up going on vacations cenetered around Doing Stuff, it was momentarily hard for me to surrender to the idea of spending most of my time lost in a book--something I can do at home for a hell of a lot cheaper. It reminds me of my aunt and uncle, who not only dedicate one of their vacation days to watching movies in a theater but also spend the day before they come home at a laundromat so they don't have to wash anything when they get home. It probably doesn't surprise you that doing laundry on vacation is against everything I stand for.

We weren't that bad, though. We managed to drive through the town several times and eat four meals out for wedding-related events, so it wasn't like we were holed up the entire time. And even when we were sort of holed up, I'm proud to report that we didn't turn on the tv once(!), and instead of spending our last day at the laundromat, we could be found, just few hours before we boarded the plane for home, at the swim-up bar enjoying our last daiquiri and "coco loco." (This was especially fortunate because otherwise we wouldn't have learned that 1. the coconuts they serve drinks in are chopped off a stalk and shaped and hollowed out right there by a machete-weilding bartender, and 2. coco locos float!)

Even though we didn't really get to know the city up close and personally, I still have this dumb white-girl worldliness mentality going on, meaning that when I picked up my burrito on Wednesday, I was busting to tell the waitresses that I had just come back from Mexico, their Homeland, so can we be BFF now and maybe I could get a free side of rice, ? It's a good thing I didn't say anything because, as Simon says, they're probably from Guatemala anyway.

In the end, I have developed a newfound respect, nay love, for the Do-Nothing Vacation. Although there's definitely something to be said for getting lost in scary back alleys, dining on questionable meat products, and feeling like a clod because I don't speak the language, I'm learning that sometimes it's okay to play Resort Tourist and enjoy the luxuries of room service and swim-up bars and water filtration.

I am a do-nothing vacationer. In fact, it's the *only* kind of vacation I truly enjoy. I guess I'm just lazy like that, but also, at home, I never take the time to sit and read a book and lounge. There is work to be done, and exercising to be done and vacuuming! Dishes! Laundry! Cats to pill!

I'm firmly of the opinion that leisure time is best enjoyed in a hotel with no ovens to clean and no lists to make and people who bring you fancy drinks.

My favourite photo was the shot of the ruby toenails by the pool.

I am a total do nothing vacationer too. I don't want to sit in a hot cab or hike about, it's a vacation. I'm all about the pool and sleeping as much as is humanly possible. It looks like so much fun.

I love the shot of the Malecon(from the backseat of a taxi, I'd guess?) I have a similar one from when I was there 9 years ago.

I need a Do Nothing vacation. Badly.

Welcome home!

God, that looks so HEAVENLY.

Wow!! Sounds great. I'm not a do-nothinger but I have yet to go somewhere where it is a vacation just to be there, if you know what I mean..?

The last picture of you tells that you needed to be JUST a Resort Tourist...you look stunning after few days of leisure!

Looks like you had a great time. I have to look into that Do Nothing type of vacation. Sounds wonderful!

What a beautiful photograph of you, m'dear! Sounds like a lovely, relaxing holiday.

I like to explore a little on vacations, but that's about it. I'd have to be pretty toasted to go parasailing or something like that.

You must be relaxed, by the way, because you used the phrase "centered around." I'm not the Grammar Police by any stretch (one look at my own site confirms it) but it made me chuckle. :-)

Great hat!
Your vacation sounds ideal to me! I love equal parts beach bumming and exploring.

Dude, it's 7am and I'm laughing hysterically about you wanting to tell the burrito waitress you'd visited her homeland. She was probably from New Jersey or something.
