Desperate Pet Owners Want to Know

Does anyone have experience with the Soft Paws tips one might glue onto a cat's claws to keep her from wreaking mass destruction on all objects (and people) within her empire?

Yes, and they worked, but goddamn, are they a bitch to put on. Personally, I gave up trying, and found that if I keep my little bugger's nails short, he doesn't scratch furniture (and it doesn't hurt!)

What Jonniker said. Also, a sisal scratching post worked wonders for my boys.

One of my cats submits docilely to having her claws clipped; the other has to be wrapped in a towel and SAT UPON and it's a two-person job at least. I can't imagine trying to put soft paws on him.

We don't have any furniture that they like to claw, luckily - Loki likes his scratching post and I'm still trying to get Petra to stop sharpening on the bedroom carpet.

You might try something like Feliway or some tin foil all crumpled up and taped on to the furniture. I know both things are probably less dangerous to a human than trying to wrassle with a kitty who doesn't want his/her claws messed with.

You might also try squirting her with a squirt bottle whenever she scratches on something you don't want her to scratch on - you have to be vigilant, but she'll get the idea eventually.

Robyn, at bitchypoo.com is a softpaw expert and a cat lover. i bet she could help you. we also clip our kitties nails short. mark holds them by the scruff and i clip as fast as i can. i also use that bitter apple spray and an spray bottle whenever we get something new. seems to work! good luck.

I use them on my cats and love them. After about the 3rd time of putting them on my cats, I think they gave up fighting and just let me put them on. I would suggest getting the colored tips because then you know when one of them has fallen off - you can't really tell with the clear one. Plus it looks like you painted your cat's toe nails which makes me laugh.

Yes! I used to love them. They worked splendidly on my petite adult girl cat (lasting for a month at a time) and somewhat less so on my huge fat adult boy cat. Then we got a boy kitten. The softpaws would not stay on and he damaged everything that we were trying to save, so I stopped wasting the money.

I found them relatively easy to put on, but I also have played with my cats nails a lot since they were kittens.

So, for Eve, yes. For the big guy, not sure, but probably.

Our kitty is amazingly docile when it comes to letting us clip her claws. Friends of ours used Soft Paws on their kitties and they worked pretty well and it always made me giggle to see their huge orange boy cat walking around with hot pink claws.

I used them for awhile and they worked really well. They are tough to put on, but since I only put them on the front paws and had done it a couple times, got easier, and the package lasted awhile.

Also - I got mine from a PetSmart or PetCo as I recall, and the checkout girl told me that if I tried them and hated them, I could bring back the remainder of the package and get my money back. (Their return policy allows for use). I would check on that though, but it can't hurt.

Vets' offices will do this for a reasonable fee.
(I lock myself and the cat in the tiny bathroom and sit on the floor by the door to trim her nails. She knows she can't run. I also have three decor-matching scratching posts in the 1150 square foot condo. She never scratches anything she shouldn't.)

A sisal post worked for me and if she doesn't like it at first sprinkle catnip all over it. Methyl went nuts and always uses that to scratch now. I've also heard from our friends that they wrapped their couch in duct tape (sticky side out) for a few weeks. Can't really sit in it during that time but it worked for them.

i will agree, that the sisal post worked a lot bettwe than a carpeted one for our one "scratch challenged" puss.
