Gold
Apparently, when transferring photos from my camera to Simon's computer while abroad I used some creative (unorganized, imcomplete, confusing) filing techniques and am now having some trouble tracking down all my pictures. I did find, however, what I think is the only extant photo of me that shows both dress and shoes (but not hat, which didn't match anyway). Thank goodness I kept my knees together in this one.
Here's me outside the church after everyone's left to either attend the faire or set up for the reception.

(I called this cat Simon because it seemed like as soon as we got to England we were surrounded by Simons. The groom's brother and one of his best men are named Simon, for instance. So, this is me and Simon getting to know each other despite protests that we get to the reception site posthaste. Kitties--I can't resist them, and if they're friendly, they must be petted. Also, if they're really handsome, I will apparently let them press their moist snouts against my camera lens.)
But back to the dress, if you remember this entry, I picked the second one, which was originally the runner up. I call it "the gold one," even though it's really just beige or tan or something similar--a color that I usually avoid because with my pale skin and hair, when I wear it I end up looking like a giant tube of blah, everything blending in to everything else. This isn't the dress Simon originally voted for and declared "It," but after I found a handbag (at Target!) that PERFECTLY matched the shiny gold waistband thing, he started to warm to the idea that this might be the one. And then I showed him what shoes I would wear with it, and then he was sold.

My parents bought me these shoes for Christmas and I love them. They're the perfect height for already-tall me, and they're full of textury goodness--stacked wooden kitten heel, damask peach outer with gold detailing, goldish velvet cording forming petite bows at the toes, even the insides are pretty. Best of all, I can wear them for hours on end and not contend with torturous foot cramps the day after. They are really special shoes, and that comes from a girl who lives in tennies.
The dress is pretty awesome too, and Simon's mom practically swooned when she saw it. "Wear that one! Wear that one!" she said looking at them on their hangers, and that was the end of the discussion. I aim to please.
One thing I need to remember to do, though, is practice sitting down in a dress before buying it. Either that or (1) don't sit down ever or (2) get used to the front-row seat of my own torso, all the way from my neck to my belly button, since I have no cleavage in between to block the view. I don't know if it was distracting to anyone else that my turquoise bra was playing peek-a-boo with the congregation, but I sure had a time of it.
Here's another shot of the dress, in which you can kinda sorta see the pleats in the bottom half. Very au courant. Also, I matched our rental car.

And here is a near full-length shot with the bride, whom I had to track down and practically grab by the shoulders lest the day go by without our getting in a single frame together. No comments on my shiny forehead, please.

The siblings, you will notice, are looking slightly uncomfortable, I think because they were aware--although I was not--of my bizarre hip-thrusty pose, which seems to suggest that I want to hump the bride. She's cool and all but, um, no thanks. On closer inspection, though, who's hand is that on my ass, huh? Perviness runs in the family.
On that note, that's all I have for you today because I am, as we say in the 'hood, bizzay. A cute self-portrait seemed to stay the hounds last time, so now here are two more. Oy with the red-eye already. Sheesh.

Note: I also match the wine. Huzzah!
Posted by Leah at September 13, 2006 05:20 PMI am momentarily sated. You were gorgeous and I love the dress you chose. And holy shnikeys! The family resemblance between Simon and Mel is undeniable.
Posted by: Amanda at September 13, 2006 06:06 PMthe dress and shoes. stunning.
Posted by: jeorg at September 13, 2006 07:40 PMGorgeous. I love the waist of the dress...my sister wore a skirt that exact same colour to my Mum's wedding 2 weekends ago. Also, if I ever travel to the US I am going to steal those shoes! The ones I wore to the wedding ended up making my feet bleed but they were cute nontheless. Totally understand where you're coming from re: being tall and not wanting shoes that make you look too tall :) My prob is I don't want to tower over L and have the whole Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman height thing going. I could've said `Tom Cruise/anyone else in the world' in that sentence really! OK, I'm going back to work, really I am :)
Posted by: Tan at September 13, 2006 07:46 PMLove it. In the first pic, all I could focus on was the shoes - even before you pointed them out, I said out loud, "THE SHOES!"
You look fab, and any dress that allows for those shoes is worth its weight in gold. Er, no pun intended.
Posted by: jonniker at September 13, 2006 07:50 PMOh my gosh. Stunning! And this was dress number TWO!? Can we see number one, please?
Posted by: beck at September 13, 2006 09:18 PMBeautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Posted by: Angella at September 13, 2006 09:33 PMOk, you are gorgeous... we GET IT already! And Simon too, already. lol.
Seriously though, that dress looks great on you. And I see why you love the shoes. They were perfect.
Posted by: reddirtroad at September 13, 2006 11:23 PMWow. Knockout dress. And I want parents who give shoes as Christmas gifts! Love Simon's tie too. There's not enough green around these days.
Posted by: Cath at September 14, 2006 12:28 AMI'm *swooning*...the shoes...the shiny gold waistband...matching the wine.
Lovely. Just perfectly lovely.
I'm the same way with cats. I was so frustrated when we lived in Germany because none of the kitties in the streets would come to me. Pete said it was because they didn't speak English.
Posted by: candace at September 14, 2006 06:17 AMLovely. As they might say in England, lovely lovely lovely. Do they really say that, there, I'm so Canadian, I don't know, eh?
Anyhow, you looked fabulous. LOVE the dress you picked and SWEET on matching everything.
"I think because they were aware--although I was not--of my bizarre hip-thrusty pose, which seems to suggest that I want to hump the bride."
HA HA! That's pretty funny ;)
(PS. The shoes. They are special. And I know no one would ever think to comment on the boutonniere but from an ex-florist-- the thistle is so perfectly English-garden wedding!)
Posted by: rosie at September 14, 2006 07:49 AMAlways humping the bride, never a bridesmaid.
Posted by: Texas T-bone at September 14, 2006 08:15 AMFYI: Shininess and red eyes can all be fixed in PS. Great dress! Va va voooom.
Posted by: gimmy at September 14, 2006 09:50 AMSmashing outfit! I covet those shoes, adorable AND comfortable? I don't know if I just have super wussy feet but just about every pair of cute heels I try on hurt like hell, which is why I spend most of my time in flip flops. Alas.
Posted by: felicity at September 14, 2006 10:37 AMThose shoes are absolutely wonderful. I totally love them. Where did your parents get them? The dress is gorgeous, too!
Posted by: elizabetht at September 14, 2006 11:43 AMI was shopping for tennis shoes with my parents because that's what I wanted for Christmas, and we ran into those beauties at some stripmall chain store like Famous Footwear or something and when I decided I simply must have them, the folks insisted on buying them. They're Mudd brand--something you'd totally find at JC Penney or Sears.
Posted by: Leah at September 14, 2006 11:46 AMIf I do ever end up married, I want that dress, in off-white. Didn't you say something about not having any sense of style? WTF ever, lady.
