My dad's a podiatrist and I just asked him about your situation; he said it's unlikely that a potassium deficiency is manifesting itself in a 20-something adult. His advice is to visit a podiatrist, not walk around barefoot, and wear shoes with real arch support. Buy some arch support thingies (even if they don't work well with the flip-flops) and make an appointment with a "medical professional." As an aside, I absolutely love your site!

I hear you on the high arches. I often have to go up a half size or a size if the shoe has non adjustable straps (because my foot is too HIGH to fit in them, not too big) or if it's too narrow (because I have wide tired Irish washerwoman feet). I just end up never wearing shoes with pointy toes or heels thinner than an inch in diameter because it's not worth it. My feet spent 7 years in pointe shoes (high arches were great for pointe work) and they won't put up with hurty shoes no mo.
