Mirror Project Reject

Let's do boring pictures first, shall we?

Here are some verdant California landscapes and other related crap. Ooh; aah:

Here is evidence that I have a soft spot for semis and that we roadtrip in style.

From the rolling hills of the Central Valley to the the rolling hills of laundry! In amongst photos of Brady the Cat, some lovely outdoor roses, some lovely indoor tulips, and me in a towel turban is a picture of our laundry in process. That's minus the load that was in the washer and the one in the dryer. And the load in the neighbor's dryer. Thanks, Mark, for letting my ten-year-old underwear tumble in your garage for thirty minutes! *die of embarrassment*

And now for the fun stuff. Simon has been saying for months upon months that his first priority after getting his corneas cut open and blasted with a "laser" was to go straight out and buy his body weight in cheap sunglasses at the Orange County Swap Meet. Although he didn't quite go that far, he did purchase about as many pairs of sunglasses as we did loads laundry, which is A LOT. But first! Googles! Well, actually, "doggles", since they have a headstrap and HELLO:

Some of the other LASIK patients were bummed to hear that they had to wear the goggles for five hours after surgery and then at night and in the shower for the next week. Simon, however, was reeling from the joy of hearing that they actually get to keep the goggles forever and ever and ever, oh boy! Depending on how you look at it, he either got a free pair of doggles or they are the most expensive eyewear he'll ever own.

If you look closely at that last, really dark picture of Simon, begoggled, brushing his teeth, you have witnessed evidence that about 50 percent of the photos I took on the trip ended up having some sort of reflection element. It's my own personal Mirror Project. Yes, it's cheap and gimmicky, but lordy he got some fantastic reflecty sunglasses and I couldn't help myself. If I can't see his eyes, at least I can gaze at myself, eh?

Here are the first of what will prove to be many many many photos taken in Simon's already highly beloved lenses. See if you can catch a glimpse of Simon's mom in the picture with the hot dog. (And no, I didn't buy the white sunglasses, but I did buy the hat--$7!.)

Other fun things in Orange County include: staying in a hotel room, playing dress-up, wearables with flames!, blingmobiles and convertibles, dinner on the San Clemente pier, and the safety of knowing there's a certified coroner at the foot of the bouncy slide.

As you can see we had a great time and I took waaaay too many pictures and Simon is NOT blind and his mother didn't freak out about the tower of folded panties left on her couch overnight, although who knows what Mark thought of my Lisa Simpson underoos. Summer is finally here. Can't you just smell the orange blossoms in the air?

Very cool pics. Love 'em.

His LASIK glasses were WAY cooler than mine. Mine sucked. Pics are great though!

Awesome. Loved the mirror project!

AWESOME. I loves the pics. :)

Lookin' pretty snaz in the Mini convo. Better snatch one up before life takes over and you "need" four dours and something practical.

Your Mirror Project is much better than the real one, which has about 45,000 pictures of rather homely people making kissy faces in their bathroom mirrors. Enough is enough; pull the plug already!

Very cool pictures, and glad Simon's lasik went well. But OMG Leah - be careful with your feet on the dashboard! That totally freaks me out!!

I am jealous of how great your photos are! I just bought a DSLR and all mine suck!

Susie--Although learning how to use the camera correctly is important, the more important step (if you're not a professional is photographer) is learning how to process the images in a Photoshop-type program. You'd be amazed at what a difference it makes when you simply click "Auto Contrast."

I think i need to pay a visit to that swap meet! Your pictures are so incredible. What kind of camera do you use? I am in the market...for a really good one.

Canon 350 Digital Rebel XT, with a 17-85mm lens. Woot!
