Simultaneity
Simon and I just posted entries at the exact same time and it feels like that one episode when Winnie and Kevin promised to think of each other at exactly 1:00, but then Kevin got distracted and didn't think about her and felt like something had gone cosmically wrong that could never be righted again and then the Beach Boys sang a bittersweet ballad about young love, etc.
I can't find anything about that episode on Google, and now I'm starting to think that it wasn't Kevin and Winnie but me and my high school boyfriend (hi, Dave!) except I don't think he would have forgotten to look at the clock, and our soundtrack was a little less Beach Boys and a little more Dexy's Midnight Runners.
David was great, just the kind of guy a girl should have--manly enough to tackle you to the ground and hold you down for a pink belly, but girly enough to split a "Best Friends" necklace with you. Every time I talk about Kevin Arnold (and it happens more than it probably should), Simon rolls his eyes and calls him a "little gay homo," and I bet right now he's thinking the same thing about David and the necklace. Well, I have two words for you, mister: American Girl. And two more: pink sunglasses. And: Hey, that looks like Rory's grandpa!
I wouldn't change a thing. Simon, David, and Kevin, you're all just perfect.

I had THE biggest crush on Kevin Arnold when I was in middle school. I had a picture of him in my locker. :)
In high school my locker was full of pictures of David Letterman. I like 'em weird.
David Letterman and Harrison Ford, wasn't it?
Nah, Harrison Ford is currently gracing the wall of my bedroom.
I totally remember that episode. Kevin was making googly eyes at that blonde girl instead of watching the clock. Awesome.
Why hasn't The Wonder Years been released on DVD yet? It's a shame
Talking too much about Kevin Arnold? Is that humanly possible? Has Simon ever seen the show? Like really, properly?? I'll send you my tapes and you can show him the episode where Kevin and Winnie sneak out and meet each other on that bridge and they kiss....THEN he'll get it. Or maybe the Summer Special...its a toss up (yes, I have a slight obsession).
And if he doesn't get it, well...well, I don't know what we will do!
Dave - I spent a little more time than necessary wondering why they hadn't released one of the greatest tv shows ever on DVD, and found that part of the answer is that it's apparently been pretty costly getting the rights to use all the music in the show (or something like that). There is a petition online somewhere, and I think I read recently that The Wonder Years *is* finally being released on DVD.
In fact, if this site is to be believed it already has been.
Gimme!
Winnie was so hot, but so distant. That hits so close to home.
(Thanks for my modified blogname in your links, btw; I was kidding, but I'll take it!).
Newgyptian-
You just made my day. My next paycheck is already spent!
Is that Wonder Years DVD thing legit? I've seen a dodgy `best of' floating around, and now that I've seen two different versions of the entire TV show available on DVD with different cover art etc I'm wondering whether someone has put it together themselves?
Anyway, Kevin misses thinking of Winnie on the hour because he's gazing at the blonde chick...which he later does some french project with and ends up making french food with her at her house I think. Then there's something to do with a bracelet...geez I loved that show!
