Simon Says - "HELP!!!"

OK everybody, I need help, and I need it FAST.

Right now, it is 1:20 PM. I have a band rehearsal at 8:00 PM.

First order of business at tonight's rehearsal is to COME UP WITH A NEW NAME.

I am usually so damn good at this... clever is my "thing." But this time, I'm coming up empty.

I need suggestions, please. ASAP.

So that you know a little about us, we are a county band, and we play old-school stuff like Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Sr, Merle Haggard, George Jones, etc. We are a guitar, pedal steel, bass, and drums.

Current name to be replaced: "Kernfield"

Name rejected for personal reasons by one band member: "Mommy Drinks"

The only ideas I have so far are: "The Flying Rats" and "Country Fiddle."

Help, please.

So you're not going to suggest "Moustache Riders"? Darn.

How about "Jukebox"?

How about "The Registered Sex Offenders" that will get attention.

Posted by: will at January 19, 2006 01:38 PM

How about "Jeremy Still Loves Me"?

Posted by: Leah at January 19, 2006 01:42 PM

Have you tried the band name generators out there on the Interwebs? Here are a few (totally random) from the first site I found:

# Order Of The Good Water
# The Lost Woman Quartet
# martinisound
# Bad War
# The Invisible War Shrine

Here are some sites:
http://www.elsewhere.org/bandname
http://bandnamemaker.com/d/index.html

Oh, and from this site:
http://www.joescafe.com/bands/bands.cgi
came "Wheels of Paula" which I really like, for some reason.

A few humble suggestions:

"Simon and the Good Beats"
"Naked in the Bay"
"Willie's Braids"

I don't know. I tried. :)

Oh dear. Random Name Generator, I can't quit you!

How about The Stanleys?

The Lint Traps?

Red Flannel?

I still think Jukebox is a good one. Maybe it needs a little something something more? Wasted Jukebox? Wooden Jukebox? Locked Jukebox?

Souls for Two Kingdoms. JUST KIDDING.

How'z about The Uncle Daniels or Whiskey River (might run into some copyright issues there, though)

Ryan Adams (previously of Whiskeytown) and The Geardaddies are two of my favorite bands, and they are both what might be considered "alternative" country, for lack of a better description. So, perhaps a combo of those two: Whiskey Daddies.

Ok, I'll stop. I'm not helping.

Good luck

How about The Fat Stan's? :P

How about the Bleeding Asses, it works on many levels. Or more seriously Third World Country.

Posted by: will at January 19, 2006 04:45 PM

Oh my lord, it's 8:15 and I just now read this. I'm no help at all. I think good country groups have names that meant something, like Blue County or Lonestar, or well, that's enough to get the point. It needs a coolness, but a country-ness, too.

Yep, see how much help I was right then? None.At.All.

Posted by: Amy at January 19, 2006 05:20 PM

Let's see, it's 8:30 eastern, so I can sneak in under the wire here. But I do love "Third World Country".. that's some genius right there.

How about:
The OC (original country)
Wooden Nickel Express
Three Day Bender
Jukebox Junkies
Red Headed Stranger (paying homage to Willie with that one)

And that's all I have for now. But there will be more forthcoming, I can feel it.

Ridin’ West
Wyoming Wind
Texas Rain
Montana
Southern State of Mind

Bull Ridin’
Crossroads
Mustangs
Canyon Point
Westbound Train
Promise
Open Range
Shooters
Ammunition
Six Pack
Double Barrel

These are all so lame. You need a name. A name of a classic fiddle, or a name of someone in the group that’s unique and cool sounding, or a combo of names. The name of the town you hail from. The name of a road. Oh, I don’t know!! Maybe one of those will help spur on a much better idea.

Good luck with it!

Is it too late to simply suggest Simon Says?

Posted by: k at January 20, 2006 07:35 AM

oscar's garbos... that's my submission, though late.

Posted by: chlamygirl at January 20, 2006 08:57 AM

Oooh, am I too late? I've always been fond of band names that have numbers... 311, Three Dog Night, The Four Tops, etc...

How many people are in the band? Doesn't matter i guess... i think their name should be:

3 Angry Inches...

It would make a cool logo 3AI would yes indeed.
