Big Pimpin'
At long last, pictures of the pimptastic bikes in their full glory.
But first:
My legs are sore, my knees are tight, my shins ache, wah wah wah. Lots of bike riding, lots of walking around packing The Heaviest Laptop Ever, and even a little bit of dancing. Woe is me, life is hard, wah. There was also live bluegrass at the Mexican restaurant that serves wasabi burritos (with seaweed and everything), and Indian food before live Brasilian music and dancing with friends, and burgers and fries with Teddy before catching up on Carnivale, just like old times. There was also the purchase of yet another bike (that makes four in the kitchen), and somehow still room enough in my weekend to have half of a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day (locked out of the house! argh!).
And now:
This first set is from our inaugural ride around the lake two weekends ago. (Since then we've been on another lake ride. At night! Under the full moon! Spooky! Especially the gazebo, and especially when it's occupied by a small group of teens doing some D&D stuff in full ren faire regalia, with the cloaks and the flower headdresses and the ball gowns and the magic staffs.)
But a ride around the lake is not at all spooky in the day.
From left to right: Action shot!; pimp pose; my ding-a-ling. (All photos enlarge.)
My bike is hawt; my boyfriend is hawt; reflections are hawt. (Biking gloves are not hawt.)
Chrome is shiny; it's pretty where we live; wonder of wonders, they fit in the car!
We like our bikes an awful lot.

This set is from our trip along the Embarcadero in San Francisco last Sunday. We rode from China Basin to Aquatic Park and back. That's far enough to make your knees hurt.
Simon, a seagull, and the Golden Gate Bridge; us reflected in a window at SBC (formerly PacBell) Park; me waving a mitten (because biking gloves apparently weren't dorky enough).
Pimp pose; SF from Pier 40-something; crab legs a la dumpster.
Aquatic Park; he has a thing for sunglasses; big sunglasses.
I love this shot.
I love this guy.
Posted by Leah at January 17, 2006 10:35 AMIn the words of Paris Hilton, those bikes are hawt. :)
Posted by: Sam at January 17, 2006 10:47 AMI have always wanted to get a cool cruiser bike like that, but my husband insists upon my keeping a hardcore mountain bike that I've only used three times. Because mountain biking is hard and scary, I prefer the flat surface of a boardwalk or park. :)
Posted by: Amanda at January 17, 2006 01:18 PMYou just made me ache for San Francisco. I'm now very sad that I'm not there.
*sigh*
Excellent pictures, excellent bikes, excellent city.
Posted by: suburban misfit at January 17, 2006 01:30 PMSweet...those photos make me think two things
1. my mountain bike is just plain boring in comparison :)
2. I miss green grass!! (our city is on level 4 water restrictions which means no watering of lawns...I forget what sprinklers sound like!)
No sprinklers here, Tan. Just rain. Lots and lots of rain.

Posted by: Just a girl at January 17, 2006 05:50 PM*big sigh* As a fellow bike-a-holic who is now grounded in reality, I'd long to have four or five bikes hanging from the ceiling (in the living room). Your bikes are crooz-a-licious. Because I got a new car a few months ago, my better half is forcing me to live with my 10-year-old mountain bike. I am urbanizing it with city tires and crazy-phat decals, though, so it will look like total surburban pimpin' on top of my Subaru station wagon.
Posted by: Texas T-bone at January 17, 2006 09:12 PMAs always, I am loving the pics. And as a lifelong lover of all things two-wheeled, I am loving the pimptastic bikes. However, if you are having knee pain from riding, you may have to adjust your seat height.
To find the right seat height position you need to sit on your bike with your feet on the pedals. Position one pedal at the very bottom of it's stroke. Your seat height should be adjusted so that in this position your knee is bent at around a 25 to 30 degree angle.
The easiest way to achieve this is to put your heel on the pedal and adjust the seat so your leg is straight. When you move your foot to regular pedaling position (toes/ball of the foot on the pedal) your knee will have the proper amount of bend.
