Tuesday Night Dinner Date

I've only got a second because I have to REWRITE an introduction for an author who refuses to be edited, but I wanted to put it out there--more for my own memory than for anyone else--that last night we went to Guitar Center and fondled expensive instruments and played a $6,000 electronic drum set and bought a book that by golly better teach me jazz piano improv techniques, and then, with only twelve minutes to spare, we raced home to catch Gilmore Girls even though Simon would have preferred to lay out a sleeping bag in the high-end section and rock-and-roll-all-night/snuggle-everyday with the Les Pauls. And whereas the cashiers at Guitar Center did not appreciate the importance of hurrying the fuck up lest I miss my favorite television show, Simon understood perfectly, and he said a wistful yet speedy goodbye to the steel Fender out of respect for my obsession. As we ran across the parking lot, sped down the street, aaaaalmost made an illegal right-hand turn, and then sprinted up the stairs to my place, he was the voice in my ear repeating, "I'll get you there in time, baby. Don't worry." The way he said it, you'd think (a) we were racing home for an emergency appendectomy instead of a WB drama or (b) he's actually interested in what happens when Rory is asked to chair a DAR event and then Logan's bitch mom shows up unannounced, the nerve! But in truth there was no appendectomy and Simon couldn't care less about my silly little program, which leaves me to conclude the following: 1. What's important to me is by extension important to him, and that is a good way to be, and 2. When he doesn't give a rat's about Gilmore Girls, that means while I'm in the living room glued to the set, he can be in the kitchen preparing dinner, which is exactly what he did. (Of his own volition.) (Because he really is that nice.)

I can't believe that I watched as much of that show as I did. What a bunch of foolishness. And they talk so fast! But hey, Leah was kind enough to listen to me talk about the difference between a spider resonator and a biscuit resonator on a steel guitar, so I guess it's only fair that I pay attention enough to discuss why Luke didn't actually want to go camping, or to speak intelligently about how silly Rory was to drop out of Yale. What a dummy.

...and has anyone noticed that Lorelai is reminiscant of Jenna Elfman (Dharma and Greg)? She's just as annoying but nowhere near as hot. Talk about a cloud with no silver lining.

How dare you speak ill of the pretty!

Simon's just like Luke! With the "I want to be where you are" thing! How totally cute!

I'll stop using excessive exclamation points now.

He's a keeper. Remember that.

simon has now sparked a debate among t and i as to who is more annoying, dharma or lorelei... t thinks lorelei, i think dharma...

and leah, yes she is nuts for dropping out, but lorelei has to get her act together to help her out. and would she finally admit she doesn't want to marry luke.

checking in after a long absence...and I find that you, too, are a big Gilmore Girls fan! I just LOVE that show.

and between dharma and lorelai...no choice at all...definitely Dharma.

Seriously, Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite addictions. I have to say though that Dharma is soooo much more annoying. How can you not love Lorelai? And for the record, I think she should stay mad at Rory. I don't care if she is going through her I Never Had The Chance To Rebel And Be A Bad Girl, phase. I do believe that Lorelai doesn't want to marry Luke either which is so sad. I've been shouting from the rooftops that they should be together for so long.

Anyhoo, enough of my Gilmore Girls rant. Your night sounded mucho fab and Simon is the cutest. Lucky girl. :)

Oops...didn't mean to post twice.

People. Lorelai DOES want to marry Luke. She just doesn't want to turn his life into a circus of babies watching the tv too loud and crazy dance recitals. She doesn't want him to have to change for her. That's what the whole camping thing was setting up. Just wait--in the coming weeks there's bound to be another speech where she says "You don't want to live the married-with-kids life," and he'll say, "Yes, I do, if it's with you," and she'll say, "No, you don't," and he'll say, "Yes, I do," and she'll say, "Really? But I don't want to change you," and he'll say, "But I want to be changed," and then she'll do the I'm-Lorelai-and-I'm-confused look. Just wait for it.

um, leah, nope. she doesn't want to marry him as much as he wants her. that was the whole point of the dean argument with luke, when he told him that he will have the same prob with lorelei, luke just isn't big enough for her... and grandma knows this too. i love l and l, but it ain't gonna happen even if it might should (ky-ism).

Didn't you just LOVE the way Emily told off Logan's mother at the affair Rory ran? I'm not a Rory fan, but I love Lorelai to death, and Emily just fascinates me. Luke is a delight too. Why don't I ever get to meet anyone like Luke?
