A Little Can Be A Lot

The good thing about my life is that it's in the habit of kicking some major ass (not in the violent, actual-kicking sort of way, but in the proverbial one), and it's hard to hold it down for too long. I came into work this morning (er...afternoon) completely late and completely frazzled and completely overwhelmed with all of the things I needed to do and didn't get done in part because my magical* friend Brandin appeared from the ether last night and talked my throat raw.

Once I sat down at my desk and started going through my email, the freaking out was getting to palm-sweating, if-I-just-black-out-and-hit-my-head-and-have-to-go-to-the-hospital-then-no-one-will-hold-me-responsible-for-my-work levels, and I felt like flipping off the world with both fingers. So I ran into my supervisor's office and I was all "work!...pant pant...computer problems!...bugged eyes...deadlines!...fetal position...dress! shoes! sweater!...fake seizure...whaaaaaanh!" and she was all "Um, yeah, we're pushing back the deadline for that book, so you have an extra week. Have you tried Shoe Pavilion?"

I need to remember to chill out. I need to remember that people who mean what they say will also do what they say. And I need to remember that deadlines are a shifty bunch by nature. And that if I get up when my alarm goes off, I won't be late to work.
