Lazy Saturday
I'm tired. I went out two nights in a row. That's almost a little too much fun for this old girl, and now all I want to do is make mix tapes and download another juicy gig of music from 3hive, but seeing as how I've spent the last four hours doing just that, I'm gearing up to possibly go out for the third time in as many days. I know I sound like I'm complaining, but I'm really not. I like being busy; I'm just not used to it.
For those of you who were on proverbial pins and needles after my last entry, I hate to tell you that nothing particularly blogworthy happened at the concert on Thursday. The two things I was anticipating--webstalkers and naked girl in a fishtank--didn't come through. For one, it turns out that the mermaid thing only happens at special events and private parties, and two, apparently all of you stalkers out there were too chicken to approach me and my tiny, overpriced amaretto sour. Or perhaps you were intimidated by my company, which consisted of the always ravishing Gayle and her roommate, the stunningly beautiful Ronda. I can't remember the last time I went "out" with "girls," so that was weird. In fact, I don't think I've ever done it. I don't know how to explain why it felt so different (and even if I did, it probably wouldn't be very interesting), but trust me, it was weird. Particularly the whole going-to-the-bathroom together thing. Not to mention the pillowfight-in-silk-nighties thing. I don't get it.
We must have made quite a conspicuous threesome, though, because we were asked for our IDs four times in the first half hour we were there, and the female bouncer called us "shiny happy people." Not sure what that was about.
The secret location of the concert was Bimbo's. The headliners--the irrepressibly Scottish Delgados--were just mediocre, which ended up being fine with me because I'd never before seen professional live music that I thought was "just okay," so I felt incredibly cool in all my blase glory. The openers, though, were worth the money. First we saw the competent and interesting Radar Brothers, who were followed by the guy we went to see: the growly, folksy, swoon-worthy Eric of Crooked Fingers (the one with the glasses), who brought together two of my favorite things--a boy and an acoustic guitar. There was much sighing coming from our general direction during his set. Synchronized smittenness is something much easier achieved when you're out with the girls as opposed to out with the boys. This I know.
The next day, I was quite pleased with myself for waking up on time, which was good because I had a lot of editing to do before the week closed. But due to a series of minor crises and happier distractions--including a broken blowdryer and subsequent early-morning trip to Target, a computer shortage and subsequent lunch date at home with my cat, the return of a greatly missed former employee and subsequent hardcore gossip session, and a wonderfully needy friend and subsequent series of mutually satisfying IM conversations--I ended up doing not one bit of work all day. Luckily, my office is the most laidback place you could imagine, and not one person scolded me for hanging out at the lunch table, my feet up on a chair, listening to iTunes at full volume when I should have been doing Very Important Things. I love my job.
Tomorrow I'll expand upon the I-love-my-job theme and and post pictures of the work party I went to on Friday night, which featured even more mediocre live music (yay!) and a Parade of Fabulous Desserts (YAY!). Happy weekending, folks.

Your wonderful place of employment wouldn't happen to have any entry-level openings would it? :)
Shiny happy people! Ha! I love it!
Was it only October 28th that Rock met Bottom? How time flies.
You sound much, much, much, much, much happier. Funny how that happens.
Oh, how I envy you - a job that you love. I can't even imagine! There are people at my job who I love and I wouldn't trade having met them for anything, but I CRAVE a job that makes me happy, that I want to go to. Please don't ever forget how lucky you are to have such a job!
