Smooth Moves

How's the smoothy-making going, you ask? I haven't talked about smoothies in several days now, and you are worried. Is everything okay? Do I still even like smoothies?

Yes, I have been making smoothies, and thanks for asking. In fact, two Sundays ago, I made eleven or twelve, I don't know, I lost count. We were invited over to Dan's for a very grownup yuppie brunch where everyone he's ever met got together in a house with no heat and sat around listening to old jazz records and watching football for two hours before the food was served.

Ethan and I were asked to bring our wonderous chrometastic appliance to shred two tons potatoes for hash browns aplenty to feed the entire city of Oakland plus a super-hungry little corner of nearby Emeryville. And shred we did. We're thinking of starting our own little shredding business: Scissorhands and Kreuger, Shredders Extraordinnaire.

Here's me shredding spuds, wearing my special spud-shredding apron from Greece:

There was also fresh-squeezed orange juice, pancakes made without a recipe, freshly ground coffee, and scrambled eggs mixed with salsa:

Oh, and smoothies, of course.

Here's me, a smoothy, and my special smoothy-colored sweater:

This is smoothy #9, I think:

If you have a blender, I highly recommend this recipe:

1 c. apple juice
1 orange, peeled and in sections
1 c. orange sherbet (use lemon sorbet for a kickier taste (or if you can't find orange sherbet))
1 c. frozen raspberries (unsweetened)

The official name of this drink is Over the Rainbow, but you can name it after me or my sweater, if you'd like.

I thought I would add one note about the potatoes. Though our food processor performed well, the skills of a good cook were wanting. By the time someone took charge of making hash browns, the potatoes had turned maroon from oxidation. Once cooked, they were virtually black. Consequently, the potatoes looked like they were fit more for some creepy Halloween breakfast with red-colored milk than for the grown-up affair for which we had intended them.

Sounds delicious, but do you have any recipes for those who are trying to watch their refined sugar intake? Like something with just fruit in it...
